Finding out you have high radon levels in your home can be stressful. You want to protect your family’s health immediately, but the cost of a mitigation system, typically a few thousand dollars, isn’t always in the monthly budget.
At RadonCare, we believe that breathing clean air shouldn’t be a luxury or a roadblock to health.
While there unfortunately isn’t a government sponsored grant available to every resident, there is a patchwork of grants, tax credits, and financing options in Alberta and British Columbia that can significantly lower the barrier to mitigation. We’ve compiled the most up-to-date list of resources to help you test and fix your home without breaking the bank.
Financial Assistance – Mitigations
- RadonCare Financing Options:
- We understand home renovations are not always expected or planned for and we’ve made arrangements to ensure you don’t have to pay for everything upfront. We offer flexible third-party financing plans for our mitigation systems. This allows you to spread the cost of your installation over manageable monthly payments, ensuring you can fix the problem now rather than waiting until you’ve saved up the full amount.
How to access it: Just ask our team during your consultation or quote review. We can walk you through the simple application process.

- The “Lungs Matter” Grant (BC & Alberta):
- Run by the Canadian Lung Association, this is currently the most direct source of funding specifically for radon mitigation in Canada.
- What it is: A grant of up to $1,500 towards the cost of hiring a certified professional to mitigate your home.
- Who is eligible: Homeowners who have been diagnosed with lung cancer (regardless of income), OR, Low-to-moderate income households (income thresholds vary by province).
- Requirement: You must have proof of a long-term test (90+ days) showing levels above 200 Bq/m³.
- How to apply: Visit the Lungs Matter Program Website.
- Resources for Seniors & People with Disabilities
- If you or a family member living with you is a senior (65+) or has a disability, radon mitigation may qualify as an eligible renovation expense.
Note: While some of these programs do not explicitly list “radon mitigation” by name, they cover renovations that “reduce the risk of harm” or improve “health and safety” within the home. We recommend applying under these categories. - Alberta:
- Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP): This program provides low-interest home equity loans (and some grants for low-income seniors) to help cover repairs that ensure home safety.
Does it cover radon? The program covers repairs to maintain “health and safety.” We encourage you to contact the SHARP program officer directly to confirm eligibility for your specific situation.

At RadonCare, we genuinely care about your health and contribute to community outreach initiatives. Finances should never be a barrier to your health and that sometimes, despite the grants and financing options above, the numbers just don’t add up.
While our resources are limited, preference will be given to those in the greatest need, especially those with the highest levels of radon, households with children, or individuals particularly sensitive to radon exposure. Proof of low income is required.
RadonCare Community Compassion Program:
Through this initiative, we commit to performing a select number of fully subsidized radon mitigations each year for those who need it most. This includes both private homeowners and the non-profit organizations that serve our communities.

1. Homeowners:
This pillar of the program is for families who have confirmed high radon levels but are facing significant financial hardship.
- Who is eligible: Homeowners with low income who do not qualify for other sufficient funding.
- Our Priority: We prioritize cases based on health risk and need. For example, a home with exceptionally high radon levels and young children will typically be prioritized over a lower-risk household.
- For Homeowners: Please include your contact info, a copy of your radon test results, and a brief explanation of your financial situation.
2. For Charities & Non-Profits
We know that many charities operate on tight budgets, and every dollar spent on building maintenance is a dollar less for your cause. We want to help you keep your focus where it belongs: on your mission.
- Who is eligible: Registered charities and non-profit organizations in BC and Alberta.
- Our Priority: We place special emphasis on organizations that provide housing or shelter for vulnerable populations (e.g., women’s shelters, children’s group homes, supportive housing, or recovery centres). However, community hubs and commercial spaces serving non-profits are also welcome to apply.
- What we offer: Depending on the need, we can provide pro-bono professional testing and/or full mitigation systems for your facility.
- For Charities: Please include your organization name, the type of facility (e.g., office, shelter, residential care), and your current radon status (if known).
Note: We respect your privacy. All applications are kept strictly confidential.
